Who Is God?

Do you know who God is? People have debated this for many years. This post is to shed some insight. The answer is for each of us to decide for ourselves. God is many different things to many different people.

A Bible

Step 1
GOD IS THE CREATOR:
Genesis 1:1 ~ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

* Everything we see was created by God. Every new life is another example of God’s creativity, power and love.

Step 2
GOD IS HOLY:
Psalm 99:9 ~ Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his holy mountains, for the Lord our God is holy.

* God’s holiness guarantees our righteousness. If He were not holy, we couldn’t become righteous.
* Holiness defines all things God wants us to be. It is threaded for us from Genesis all the way to Revelations.

Step 3
GOD IS RIGHTEOUSNESS:
Psalm 50:6 ~ And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge.

* The heavens recognize only God as righteous enough to make judgments. His word is final and right.

Step 4
GOD IS LOVE:
1 John 4:8 ~ Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
1 John 4:16 ~ And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

* God loves us more than we could ever imagine. Just as we would give our lives for our children, God desires to protect us. Just as we want the best for our children, God desires only the best for us. His love surpasses all understanding. His love is our strength.

Step 5
GOD IS GRACE AND MERCY:
Ephesians 2:8-9 ~ For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.

* If not for God’s grace and mercy, we would never see the kingdom of God. Because God is gracious enough to forgive our sins, we can join Him in heaven. Because He is merciful, He reaches out to us and has made a way for us to be saved (by sending Jesus to die for our sins).

Step 6
GOD IS TRUTH:
John 14:6 ~ Jesus answered, I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

* God is the same today as He was yesterday. What God has said will happen, has happened. God makes the laws and and His word is true.

Step 7
GOD IS MAJESTIC:
Exodus 15:11 ~ Who among the gods is like you, O Lord? Who is like you – majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?
Psalm 8:1 ~ O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

* Nothing can compare to the glory of God. No comparison can be made to the wonders of God’s creation.

Step 8
GOD LIMITED HIMSELF:
1. God limited himself when He gave us free will. Because God allows us to make our own choices, He put a limit on Himself.
2. God’s first test of our free will was in the garden. He allowed Adam and Eve to choose to obey or disobey.
3. Not only did we fail God’s first test, we then pushed the blame around. We tried to hide our sin from God. This ended our Divine Fellowship with God.
4. God’s moral rules are the same today as they were in the beginning. Our choice is the same ~ obey or disobey.

Step 9
FINAL THOUGHTS:
~ Genesis 1:27 ~ So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female he created them.

* We were made in God’s image. This should make us feel good about ourselves. God thought so much about us that he made us in his image.
* Being made in God’s image doesn’t mean God has the same hair or eyes I have. It means God has made each of us exactly the way He wants us to be. How He imagined us.

~ Joshua 1:7 ~ Be strong and courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.

* God gave us the Ten Commandments to follow (Exodus 20:1-17) so we’d know how to live and to keep us safe.
* God doesn’t want us to be lazy or waste our time or intelligence. He wants us to do what is right by following his commandments in all parts of our life.
