Seeking Happiness
Happiness is considered a universal emotion. Then why is it so elusive. Maybe because people have a hard time defining happiness. It means different things to different people. With so many definitions, how can anyone find happiness?Have you ever met anyone who was really happy? Did you pay attention to what made them happy? Ask them what makes them happy. How do they stay happy when the world is crashing around them?
There are a few common elements to being happy.
1. The influences of significant others in their lives (parents, life partners, close friends, etc.)
2. They believe happiness is something you work for. You have to find it because it doesn’t come looking for you.
3. They believe you can be happy even when life doesn’t go the way you want it to (aging parents, coping with depression, grieving the loss of someone special, being diagnosed with a debilitating illness)
4. They all have faith that there is a higher power and that belief helps them keep a positive attitude and outlook on life.
5. They believe in beginning and ending each day with positive thoughts.
6. They believe being happy keeps them healthier and looking young.
7. They believe happiness increases with age.
