Fasting 101
Most everyone has heard of “fasting” but not everyone understands “fasting”. Fasting is a spiritual discipline. It is not just skipping a meal.
Things To Do During A Fast:
1. Early Morning – Read three (3) chapters of the Old Testament and three (3) chapters of the New Testament.
2. Mid-Morning – Read two (2) Psalms and two (2) Proverbs.
3. Noon – Pray for 30 minutes alone or with a prayer partner.
4. Mid-Afternoon – Meditate upon God’s goodness for 10 minutes and rest for 20 minutes.
5. Early Evening – Intercessory prayer with daily, weekly and monthly lists. Pray five (5) minutes each hour until retiring to bed.
6. Late Evening – Worship with music, poetry and/or praise for 20 minutes.
God Can Use The Following Fasts (Isaiah 58:6-8):
1. Disciples Fast – “To loose the bands of wickedness”
2. Ezra Fast – “To undo the heavy burdens”
3. Samuel Fast – “To let the oppressed go free”
4. Elijah Fast – “To break every yoke”
5. Widow’s Fast – “To share our bread with the hungry”
6. Paul Fast – “To allow God’s light to break forth like the morning”
7. Daniel Fast – “Your health shall spring forth”
8. John the Baptist Fast – “That your righteousness shall be with you”
9. Esther fast – “That the glory of the Lord will protect us from the evil one”
* Fasting is a great way to cleanse your soul and rejuvenate your spirit. If you find your heart troubled or life spinning out of control, choose a meal (or a day) and find a quiet place to rest your soul in prayer.
