A Christmas Miracle
We’ve all heard the story of Jesus’ birth. It can be found in several places in the Bible. We know about the Inn being full and the baby being born in a stable. We know about Mary being a virgin, but…Have you ever stopped to think about the MIRACLE of Jesus’ birth? Each step of the way was a miracle.
Miracle #1 ~ Conception
Luke 1:26-32 ~ (paraphrased) Gabriel, God’s angel, appeared to Mary, a virgin, and told her she would become pregnant with God’s baby. Mary was frightened, confused and nervous. She was to be married to a good man, Joseph. Through all of the nerves, Mary was humbled and honored to be chosen by God to carry His Son.
Miracle #2 ~ Joseph believed and stood by Mary.
Matthew 1:18-25 ~ (paraphrased) Joseph learns Mary is expecting a baby even though they had not been intimate. An angel from God visited Joseph in a dream and convinced him not to divorce Mary. The angel told Joseph to name the baby “Jesus” meaning “God with us.”
Miracle #3 ~ The wise-men didn’t return to King Herod.
Matthew 2:1-23 ~ (paraphrased) Once Jesus was born, King Herod sent three wise-men to find the baby. He was nervous about what this baby meant for him and he planned to kill the baby. The three wise-men brought Jesus expensive gifts fit for a King. They were warned of what Herod was up to and so the wise-men returned to their country by a road that didn’t return them to King Herod.
Miracle #4 ~ Lowly shepherds spread the word – and people listened
Luke 2:8-11 ~ (paraphrased) An angel appeared to shepherds and told them of Jesus’ birth in a stable. The shepherds hurried to the stable where they were in awe of the baby Jesus. After seeing baby Jesus in the manger, they went and told everyone what they saw.
* How can anyone hear the story of Jesus’ birth and not be moved by the miracles? God sent His son from a place of love, peace, joy, celebration and worship to a place of sin, despair, pain, agony and death. God sent His Son because of the love God feels for all of us even when we are lost in sin.
*As Christmas approaches on the calendar, lets all take time to experience the miracles of the Christmas Season. Let’s share the Christmas Miracles with others.
